Why Calculate Business Days?

Contracts, SLAs, and project deadlines almost always express durations in business days. Counting them by hand is tedious and error prone, especially across long ranges or when holidays are involved. A calculator gives you the exact number in seconds and lets you tweak the working week and holidays without redoing the math.

Common use cases

  • Calculating SLA deadlines from ticket open dates
  • Projecting project completion dates by working days
  • Computing payroll periods that exclude holidays
  • Determining notice periods in employment contracts
  • Estimating shipping windows that exclude weekends and bank holidays
  • Counting school days between two dates
  • Tracking vacation accrual based on business days worked
  • Aligning international team calendars with different working weeks

Working Week by Country

Most western countries use Monday to Friday. Many Middle Eastern countries use Sunday to Thursday. Saudi Arabia and the UAE recently moved to Monday-Friday in some sectors. Toggle the working days to match the locale your calculation applies to.

Holiday Sources

Public holiday calendars vary by country and even region. The calculator does not bundle holidays; paste the ones that apply to your jurisdiction. Many governments publish authoritative holiday lists you can copy into the holidays box.

Pro tips

Tips & best practices

Match the working week to your locale

Toggle the day pills to match the working pattern of the country or company the calculation applies to

Paste holidays in bulk

You can paste many ISO dates at once, separated by commas, spaces, or newlines

Watch the inclusive toggle

Whether the end date counts changes the answer by 1. Match it to the contract language exactly

Use Swap when ranges are reversed

No need to retype. Swap puts the dates in the right order and the answer flips to positive

Account for half-days separately

The calculator counts whole days. If half-days matter (like Christmas Eve), subtract 0.5 from the working day count manually

Privacy & security

This business days calculator runs entirely in your web browser. Holidays and date inputs are never uploaded to any server, stored anywhere, or transmitted. All math happens locally on your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are weekends defined?

Weekends are whatever days you do NOT toggle on in the working week selector. By default, Saturday and Sunday are off and Monday through Friday are on. Toggle to match your locale.

Where do I get holiday lists?

Most national governments publish official holiday lists. Copy the dates you need and paste them in the holidays box, one ISO date per line. The calculator does not bundle holidays itself.

Should I include or exclude the end date?

Depends on the contract. SLA language often includes the end date; other deadlines treat the end as a cutoff. Toggle the inclusive setting to match your wording exactly.

What if a holiday falls on a weekend?

Holidays on non-working days do not change the working day count. They still appear in the holiday count for transparency.

Can I calculate across years?

Yes. The calculator handles arbitrary date ranges including across years and decades. Performance stays fast for typical multi-year ranges.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. All calculation runs in your browser. Holidays and dates are never uploaded, stored, or transmitted to any server.
