What is a Barcode Generator?
A free online barcode generator that creates 1D barcodes including CODE128, EAN-13, UPC-A, ITF-14, CODE39, and more. Output can be downloaded as scalable SVG or PNG and used in product labels, inventory tags, and shipping documents.
How to Use This Barcode Generator
- 1Type the text or numbers you want to encode
- 2Pick the barcode format that matches your use case
- 3Adjust bar width and height for your label size
- 4Toggle the human-readable value above the bars on or off
- 5Download the barcode as SVG or PNG
Key features
Multiple Formats
Supports CODE128, CODE39, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, ITF, ITF-14, MSI, Pharmacode, and Codabar
Live Preview
Barcode renders instantly as you type or change options
SVG and PNG Export
Download as crisp scalable SVG for print or PNG raster for web and email

Adjust bar width and overall height to match your label or printer requirements
Format Validation
Inputs are validated against the chosen format so EAN-13 expects 12 to 13 digits, CODE39 expects allowed characters, and so on
Human-Readable Toggle
Show or hide the encoded value below the bars depending on your design
High-Resolution PNG
PNG output is rendered at 2x resolution for clean printing and high-DPI displays

Why Generate Barcodes Online?
Barcodes power inventory, retail, logistics, and asset tracking. An online generator avoids installing dedicated software while still producing standards-compliant output. SVG export means you can scale without quality loss, and PNG export plugs into office documents and emails directly.
Common use cases
- Creating product barcodes for retail packaging
- Generating asset tags for IT inventory and equipment
- Producing shipping labels for ITF-14 cartons
- Adding barcodes to event tickets and badges
- Encoding URLs or short identifiers in CODE128 for internal tracking
- Generating EAN-13 codes for ISBN and product registration
- Printing UPC-A barcodes for North American retail
- Creating Pharmacode marks for pharmaceutical packaging
Choosing a Format
Use CODE128 for general-purpose alphanumeric data. Use EAN-13 for international retail products and ISBNs. Use UPC-A for North American retail. Use ITF-14 for shipping cartons. Use CODE39 for legacy systems and asset tags. Use Codabar for libraries and blood banks. Use Pharmacode for pharmaceutical packaging.
Quiet Zone and Print Quality
Barcodes need a clear margin (quiet zone) on both sides to scan reliably. The generator includes a default margin. When printing, ensure adequate contrast between the bars and background and avoid scaling that distorts proportions.
Tips & best practices
Pick the right format
EAN/UPC are reserved for retail with assigned numbers. Use CODE128 or CODE39 for internal or custom data
Use SVG for print
SVG scales without quality loss. Use it whenever your printing pipeline supports vectors
Test scanning before printing
Try the barcode on screen with a phone scanner app before printing thousands of labels
Mind the bar width
Smaller bar widths fit more data but may scan poorly on lower-quality printers. Test on the target printer
Validate check digits
EAN, UPC, and ITF-14 include check digits. Some scanners reject codes with bad check digits even if visually correct
Privacy & security
This barcode generator runs entirely in your web browser using the JsBarcode library. Data is never uploaded to any server, stored anywhere, or transmitted. All barcode rendering happens locally on your device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data sent to any server?
No. The barcode generator runs entirely in your browser using the JsBarcode library. Data is never uploaded, stored, or transmitted to any server.
Which barcode format should I pick?
Use CODE128 for general alphanumeric data. Use EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products. Use ITF-14 for shipping cartons. Use CODE39 for legacy or asset tagging. Use Codabar for libraries. Use Pharmacode for pharma packaging.
What is the difference between SVG and PNG download?
SVG is a vector format that scales without quality loss and is ideal for print. PNG is a raster image at 2x resolution that drops into web pages, emails, and office documents directly.
Why does EAN-13 require 12 or 13 digits?
EAN-13 has a built-in check digit. Provide 12 digits and the check digit is calculated automatically; provide 13 and it must already match the calculated check digit.
Can I scan the generated barcodes?
Yes. The barcodes follow standard specifications and scan reliably with any compatible scanner. Test on screen with a phone scanner app before printing in bulk.
Why does my CODE39 input fail validation?
CODE39 only accepts uppercase letters, digits, and a small set of symbols (- . space $ / + %). Lowercase letters and other special characters are rejected.
